CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Associate editor, CSI community newspapers, August 2008 to present

Responsible for editing feature content for this newly acquired chain of weekly community newspapers in Walworth County, Wis.

Directed the re-launch of a Thursday entertainment publication covering music and events in southeast Wisconsin and Chicago.

Editor, The Week, 1993 to August 2008

As editor, I'm responsible for driving readership by guiding the content of our publications both in print and online.

The Week is the Janesville Gazette's Walworth County publication. We publish in print twice weekly and continuously online at theweekextra.com.

Working with staff and a network of freelance contributors, I write or assign and edit a variety of stories, including long features, news stories and briefs, columns and blog posts.

Our market is extremely competitive, and we are known for our innovation in communicating effectively with our audience.

I call on a wide range of skills--from managing newsroom staff, to generating story ideas, to budgeting--to bring dynamic and relevant stories to our readers each week.

Photography editor, The Week, Feb. 1991 to Nov. 1993

Responsibilities included overseeing all areas of photographic content in The Week, which involved working with writers and editors to create high-impact photojournalism for

our readers. I was also responsible for technical quality, which demanded an understanding of the variables that affect the final publication--from acquiring images to how they reproduce on the press.

Staff photographer, Janesville Gazette, Oct. 1989 to Feb. 1991

I was responsible for daily photography assignments for a 28,000 daily newspaper.

SOFTWARE/HARDWARE

We work in a fully paginated digital production environment. I have advanced skills in Word, Photoshop, QuarkXPress, Acrobat and Dreamweaver.
